Here are a few snippets of book deals and news that have caught my eye lately! I'm really chuffed for Alice Peterson doing so well with her book Monday to Friday Man, and for all the new book deals that have been agreed!
Choc Lit Set To Publish Doctor Who-inspired Debut
Award-winning, independent publisher Choc Lit have bought world rights for a quirky romantic comedy. A Stitch in Time is written by Amanda James and is set for release in April 2013. The debut novel has a time travel theme and was inspired by television programmes such as- Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Ashes to Ashes and The Time Traveller's Wife as well as Amanda James's own teaching experience.
'We are delighted to add Amanda to our pool of talented authors. A Stitch in Time is a fun novel with insightful flashbacks in our history - the Sheffield Blitz, the Suffragette movement in London to the Old American West. Previously, Amanda has written short stories that have appeared in the anthologies Hipp-O-Dee-Doo-Dah for Children's Hospices UK and 100 Stories for Queensland (an anthology published to raise funds for The Queensland Flood Appeal).

Arrow snaps up six Sweet Valley e-book novellas
Arrow has acquired six novellas that follow on from Francine Pascal's adult novel, Sweet Valley Confidential, and will be publishing them as e-book originals.
Editor Gillian Holmes bought UK Commonwealth, excluding ANZ, rights from Angharad Kowal at Writers House, with Cornerstone Digital to publish all six novellas as e-books on 12th August 2012.
Holmes said the novellas open three years after Sweet Valley Confidential ended, and said: "In The Sweet Life, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield are now 30, and there are some pretty huge surprises in store both for them and the millions of Sweet Valley fans. Each 'episode' ends on a cliffhanger so it's impossible to stop reading them. Direct to digital e-books are the perfect format for Sweet Valley fans, and it's a new and exciting venture for us."
Michael Joseph acquires two from Moyes
Michael Joseph has acquired two new novels, as yet untitled, by Me Before You author Jojo Moyes.
Managing director Louise Moore signed a two-book deal with Sheila Crowley of Curtis Brown for British Commonwealth rights excluding Canada, with the first to be published in 2013.
Moore said: "Me Before You is proof that commercial women's fiction is alive and flourishing. Jojo gave us the right book and the result speaks for itself. We have loved working with Jojo at Penguin, and to publish into this genre in an entirely new and exciting way."
Twenty pence e-book cracks Kindle top three
An e-book being offered on the Kindle store for 20p has broken the top-three monopoly of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy after weeks of dominance.
Alice Peterson's Monday to Friday Man (Quercus) has risen to number three in the paid-for Kindle chart, as E L James' Fifty Shades of Grey (Arrow) drops to the number four slot, after spending 142 days in the top hundred.
The top two spots are still taken by the Fifty Shades follow-ups, Fifty Shades Freed and Fifty Shades Darker.
Monday to Friday Man was first released in July 2011, and has spent 75 days in the top hundred Kindle bestsellers.
Its success has grown while it has been offered for 20p, as Amazon matches the price of books offered in a promotion on the Sony Reader Store.

Book Deals: The Round-Up
Not too much news in the world of chick lit at the moment, but I am thrilled about Lindsey Kelk's and Milly Johnson's further publishing deals, and funny how the erotica boom is taking off thanks to Fifty Shades of Grey! Jumping on the bandwagon springs to mind.... :)
Milly Johnson has signed a further 2 book deal with publishers Simon & Schuster, which is great news as I always enjoy her books, and look forward to each release! Milly's next book, A Winter Flame, is due out in October.
Three more Kelk for HarperCollins
"HarperFiction has signed up three more books from Lindsey Kelk, who was previously a children's book editor at HarperCollins.
More publishers mount erotica bandwagon
"Erotica is continuing to steam-up acquisition meetings, with 19th July a potential sweet spot as both Simon & Schuster and Orion ready new releases.
Simon & Schuster is publishing Rebecca Chance's Naughty Bits, a collection of the romance author's scenes from earlier novels which were "too hot to print", with scene-setting introductions, an exclusive short story, and the first chapter of her next title, as a 99p e-book.
Fiction editorial director Maxine Hitchcock said: "With this rise in interest in erotica, we thought this was a fantastic opportunity. Sometimes in the context of a traditional book, less is more, but we never wanted to bin any of the scenes." She said the idea of publishing deleted scenes could have potential outside the genre, perhaps in publishing richer description of SFF worlds.
Meanwhile, Orion deputy publisher Jon Wood and editor Jemima Forrester paid a six-figure sum for UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in the Eighty Days erotica trilogy from agent Sarah Such. The titles are written by Vina Jackson, a pseudonym of two writers, one well-known, working together for the first time, with the story focusing on the "sexually charged relationship between two strangers".
The first title, Eighty Days Yellow, will be published on 19th July in mass market paperback and e-book, followed by Eighty Days Blue and Eighty Days Red later this year."

Here are the latest book deals that I've found online, I love finding out the latest and greatest in the publishing world, it's always exciting to find out about brilliant new books that are coming out! Which books are you looking forward to most?
Hodder buys first Oliver adult novel
"Hodder & Stoughton has acquired the first adult novel by YA crossover author, Lauren Oliver, whose previous works include Before I Fall, Delirium and Pandemonium.
Senior editor Kate Howard bought British Commonwealth rights in the title from Arabella Stein at Abner Stein on behalf of Stephen Barbara at Foundry Literary + Media, with plans to publish in hardcover in autumn 2014.
The novel, Rooms, is described as a “gripping and beautifully composed ghost story”, with two ghosts haunting a country estate following the death of its elderly inhabitant, Richard Walker, who leaves the house full of mementos, junk and valuable possessions. One ghost is the book’s narrator, Alice, who is desperate to burn down the house to escape both it and the fellow spirit living there, whom she now loathes.
Howard said: “Rooms is an unnerving and intensely emotional novel that will leave you with your hair on end and your heart aching for more. Lauren Oliver is an outstanding storyteller, and has a remarkable ability to create characters who walk off the page and straight into your life. I’m delighted to be publishing such a spectacular, exquisitely written book by such an incredibly exciting talent.”
Canvas acquires 'laugh-out-loud' debut
"Constable & Robinson imprint Canvas has acquired a "laugh-out-loud and heart-breaking" debut with plans to publish in hardback in 2013.
Commissioning editor Victoria Hughes-Williams bought UK and Commonwealth rights in the title by Angela Jackson through Anna Webber at United Agents, with the book provisionally titled The Emergence of Judy Taylor. It will be published in April 2013.
Hughes-Williams said: "I was completely won over by Angela's cast of characters, who are so deftly drawn that you feel as though you've known them for years. They really are as flawed, endearing and unpredictable as life itself.
"The Emergence of Judy Taylor is laugh-out-loud and heart-breaking in turn. Relationships are cleverly examined, thanks to Angela's unique insight into the psychology of the human condition."
Century acquires high-concept women's fiction debut
"At Century, editorial director Kate Burke has snapped up UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to a high-concept women’s fiction début, The Life List, by Lori Nelson. Burke did the deal with Rachel Kind at Random House Inc, following a multi-publisher US auction. The book follows thirtysomething Brett, who inherits a list of 10 life goals when her mother dies. Burke described it as “poignant, funny and romantic”. Arrow will publish in summer 2013."

Heart-rending conception story to Transworld
"Transworld has acquired a novel about a couple's struggles to conceive a child by author Julie Cohen, whose previous books were published by Headline.
Corgi and Black Swan publishing director Catherine Cobain bought UK and Commonwealth rights to Dear Thing and one other novel. Bantam Press will publish in hardback in June 2013 and in paperback by Black Swan in 2014.
The first title follows a couple as they try to have a baby, and focuses on their best friend's decision to carry one for them as a surrogate.
Cobain said: "Julie is an incredibly talented writer whose books I have always been passionate about. Dear Thing touched all of us at Transworld who read it—it's brilliantly written, with a complex story that is quite simply heart-rending."

The Only Way is Avon for Ziepe
"HarperCollins imprint Avon is to explore the lives of "an impeccably glamorous group of Essex girls" in two new novels.
Commissioning editor Caroline Hogg acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in two novels by debut author Laura Ziepe via Hannah Ferguson at The Marsh Agency.
Both follow the lives of the girls as they "navigate the ups and downs of relationships, careers and fake tan". The first is lined up for early 2013.
Caroline Hogg says, ‘I have been such a fan of 'The Only Way Essex'since it hit TV screens and so when I read Laura’s manuscript it clicked instantly with me . . . She’s wonderfully bright and a fantastic addition to the Avon list."

"Random House Group imprints Century and Arrow have signed a four-book deal with Rona-winning novelist Katie Fforde.
Publisher Selina Walker acquired UK, British Commonwealth, Europe and Canada and non-exclusive throughout the rest of the world (excluding US) rights from Bill Hamilton and Sarah Molloy of A M Heath.
The first title will be published in 2015.
Fforde said: "I am absolutely delighted to be signing another contract with Random House." She has been published by Century and Arrow since 1999."
Picoult to write YA for Hodder
"Hodder & Stoughton has acquired a YA title by bestselling author Jodi Picoult and her teenage daughter Samantha Van Leer.
Publishing director Carolyn Mays bought UK rights from Emily Bestler Books at Atria, and will publish the title, Between the Lines, at the end of June 2012 alongside the US publisher.
The book is described by the publisher as being "about what happens when happily ever after isn't so happy, and when the barriers between books and life begin to crumble". It will have full colour illustrations and silhouettes throughout.
Mays said: "This is a wonderful mixture of fairy tale and real life—a novel that will speak to book lovers of all ages. It's a book that mothers will want to share with their daughters and celebrate the reading experience together."
Patricia Scanlan moves from Transworld to Simon&Schuster
"Irish author Patricia Scanlan has left Transworld for Simon & Schuster. The novelist, who has been with Transworld since 1994, has signed a new deal with Simon & Schuster."

Simon & Schuster acquire novel inspired by Meryl Streep
"Simon & Schuster has acquired a novel called The Meryl Streep Movie Club, in which four women at pivotal moments in their lives are brought together by their love of the Oscar-winner’s films.
The book, by Mia March, is in the spirit of The Friday Night Knitting Club and The Jane Austen Book Club and the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights was struck with Kate McLennan at Abner Stein representing Alexis Hurley at Inkwell Management.
Max Hitchcock, fiction editorial director at Simon & Schuster, said: “Hot on the heels of Sunday's Oscars, I'm thrilled to announce a highly topical acquisition, The Meryl Streep Movie Club by Mia March. It's a heartwarming tale uniting the generations with Meryl in one of her best roles yet—that of a fairy godmother.”
The book will be published as a paperback original this summer."

"Simon & Schuster has acquired two books from debut novelist Kimberly McCreight in a "hotly contested" auction for a "significant" but undisclosed sum.
S&S has world rights to Reconstructing Amelia, which tells the story of a mother searching for the truth about her teenage daughter’s apparent suicide after she receives a note saying "Amelia didn’t jump".
S&S editorial director Maxine Hitchcock acquired the rights from Lizzy Kremer at David Higham Associates acting on behalf of Marly Rusoff with the first book to be published in summer 2013. The second is currently untitled.
Hitchcock said: "This is such a breath of fresh air from an original and talented young author who will find a wide audience amongst fans of Jodi Picoult and Susan Lewis as well as young adult readers. It’s inventive, original, controversial and brave."
Sittenfeld to re-imagine Austen for HarperCollins
"American author Curtis Sittenfeld has been announced as the latest author to re-create a Jane Austen novel as part of a series re-imagining the eighteenth century novelist's work.
Sittenfeld, who has penned Prep, The Man of My Dreams and American Wife, will write her own contemporary version of Pride & Prejudice as part of a series of six novels teaming up authors of global literary significance with Jane Austen's six complete works.
HarperCollins publishing director Louisa Joyner acquired the UK & Commonwealth rights to the book from Cathryn Summerhayes on behalf of Jennifer Rudolph Walsh at WME and the book has a planned publication date of Autumn 2014.
Kate Elton, publisher of HarperFiction, said: "It's thrilling to be announcing Curtis Sittenfeld as the second confirmed novelist in this hugely exciting project. The idea of the Bennet girls as seen through Curtis' eyes is a real literary coup with huge commercial potential, and I'm delighted we're developing the series in such an original way."
Sittenfeld said she "fell in love" with Jane Austen and Lizzy Bennet as a 16-year-old, and added: "Although I plan to pay tribute to the humour, romance, and incisive class commentary of her work, I promise that I won't try to sound like her any more than I'll now adopt a British accent!"
Joanna Trollope is to publish Sense & Sensibility in Autumn 2013 to launch the series. Conversations are ongoing as to the other literary pairings and further announcements will follow."

Book Deals: The Round-Up
Once again, there have been a few more pieces of news about various book deals going on in the publishing world, so I wanted to make a post to let you know about them, and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on yet another celebrity getting a coveted book deal!
Tulisa signs three book deal with Headline publishers, including two fiction titles
Headline has secured world rights to an autobiography and two novels by N-Dubz and “X-Factor” star, Tulisa Contostavlos.
Deputy publishing director Sarah Emsley acquired the three books at auction through Jonathan Shalit of talent agency ROAR Management, with “stiff competition” from six other publishers. The publisher plans to release her autobiography in autumn 2012, with the two novels to follow consecutively in 2013 and 2014.
Twenty-three-year-old Contostavlos grew up in Camden, north London, and acted as the sole carer of her mother when she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. She first rose to fame as the singer in hip-hop group N-Dubz, with the group winning four MOBO awards. Pan Macmillan has acquired the latest novel by Hothouse Flower author Lucinda Riley, with the author
moving from Penguin after Pan Macmillan "beat off competition" from three other publishers.
Fiction publisher Jeremy Trevathan and assistant editor Catherine Richards bought UK and Commonwealth rights for three new novels by Riley from Jonathan Lloyd at Curtis Brown.
The first new title, The Light Behind the Window, is set in Provence and Paris between the present day and the Second World War, telling the story of a young woman who is the sole inheritor of her family's chateau, and that of her father, whose role in the Resistance has been kept secret for 50 years.
Trevathan said: "Lucinda is writing the sort of fiction that people want to read today, as evidenced from her current sales; we jumped at the chance to publish her. We're absolutely thrilled."

Tulisa signs three book deal with Headline publishers, including two fiction titles
Headline has secured world rights to an autobiography and two novels by N-Dubz and “X-Factor” star, Tulisa Contostavlos.
Deputy publishing director Sarah Emsley acquired the three books at auction through Jonathan Shalit of talent agency ROAR Management, with “stiff competition” from six other publishers. The publisher plans to release her autobiography in autumn 2012, with the two novels to follow consecutively in 2013 and 2014.
Twenty-three-year-old Contostavlos grew up in Camden, north London, and acted as the sole carer of her mother when she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. She first rose to fame as the singer in hip-hop group N-Dubz, with the group winning four MOBO awards. Fern Britton signs further two-book deal with HarperCollins
"HarperCollins has acquired two more novels from television presenter Fern Britton, with HarperFiction commissioning editor Kate Bradley acquiring world rights from Luigi Bonomi at LBA, on behalf of Lacey Associates.
The first title, The Holiday Home, will be published in hardback in spring 2013, with Britton also to write two short stories that will be available with the e-book editions. The Holiday Home will be the story of the Carew sisters, Ally and Dede, who are at war with each other over the inheritance of a Cornish holiday house.
Bradley said: “Fern is a natural storyteller and her writing is full of humour and warmth.”"
Linda Green moves to Quercus
"Quercus has acquired two novels by women's fiction author Linda Green, with the author moving from Headline, which published her previous four novels.
Paperback publisher Joanne Dickinson acquired world English language rights, excluding US and Philippines, in the two as-yet-untitled novels through Anthony Goff, managing director of David Higham Associates. Quercus will publish the first in 2013.
Dickinson said: "I am thrilled that Linda is joining the Quercus team. She is a very talented writer, incredibly skilled at combining warmth and humour with serious and very moving storylines. Linda has some fantastic ideas for future novels and I'm really excited to be working with her."

New Year, new book deals! Here are the some of the latest book deals about chick lit with the major publishers!
Headline acquires new Jennifer. E. Smith title
"Headline Review has acquired a new title by the author of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.
Headline senior commissioning editor Hannah Sheppard bought This is What Happy Looks Like, the fifth novel by YA author Jennifer E Smith, for publication in spring 2013.
The title begins with a misdirected email which sparks an "unlikely and irresistible romance" between two 17-year-olds on opposite sides of the US.
Sheppard said: "It has been fantastic to watch the love pour in from readers of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight so I'm thrilled that Jennifer is writing another gorgeous contemporary romance. Jennifer's skill at developing the romantic relationship through dialogue and banter make her books an absolute joy and a luxury to read. I know her fans will love This is What Happy Looks Like."
Avon acquires three books from debut author Olivia Luck
"Avon has acquired three books by debut novelist Olivia Luck, with the first novel in the series set to follow lead character Kiki Carlow as she plans her wedding.
Editorial director Claire Bord bought UK and Commonwealth, including translation, rights in the trio of books from Claudia Webb at WME, with plans to publish the first title, The Wedding Diaries, in August 2012. The second, The Baby Diaries, will be released in February 2013, with the third, The Home Maker Diaries, to come in autumn 2013.
Bord said: "[The trilogy is] terrifically entertaining, with a sharp knowing humour that had me literally snorting with laughter in places. Olivia also writes with great warmth and in Kiki, has created an authentic female character that women will connect with immediately."

"Pan Macmillan has purchased two more novels from the author of Christmas at Tiffany's.
Editorial director for fiction at Pan Macmillan, Jenny Geras, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for a further two Karen Swan novels to follow her next release, The Perfect Present, which will be published later this year.
A former fashion journalist, Swan topped The Bookseller Heatseekers' chart in 2010.
Geras said: "Christmas at Tiffany's worked so well because it took Karen's trademark themes of love, glamour and friendship, and wrapped them up in a gorgeous Christmas package. Her new book for next Christmas, The Perfect Present, will build on this success, and I am thrilled to have signed up two more books by Karen for 2013 and 2014."
I think these all sound like amazing book deals, I'm especially happy with the idea of another Christmas novel from Karen Swan, and another super love story from Jennifer E. Smith! I'm also excited to read the trilogy from Olivia Luck, they sound great! Congrats to all publishers and authors involved in the deals.

Book Deal: Colette Caddle signs 2 book deal with Simon & Schuster
Both books are as yet untitled but the publisher has UK and Commonwealth rights to each.
Baboneau said: “Colette writes with irrepressible, instinctive warmth and heart about real people facing real-life dilemmas. She is writing at the top of her game and we are truly delighted to have two new novels on board to add to her wonderful backlist."
I think this is great news as I've read quite a few of Colette Caddle's novels and loved them, so I'll be looking forward to reading her new titles with Simon & Schuster soon! Congratulations Colette!

Book Deal: Amy Bratley signs new deal with Pan Macmillan
Editorial director for fiction Jenny Geras bought world rights in The Antenatal Group by Bratley through Veronique Baxter and Laura West at David Higham Associates. Pan will publish in mass market paperback in early 2013.
The novel follows five couples as they attend antenatal classes, and looks at the relationships they form, and their experiences of pregnancy, birth and parenthood.
Geras said: "For all the women's fiction that is out there about pregnancy and birth, I've never found anything like this which encapsulates what is such an important part of late pregnancy and early motherhood for so many women."
I really enjoyed Amy Bratley's debut novel The Girls' Guide to Homemaking which was released last year, so I am pleased that she will be back soon with a new book, it's just a shame we have to wait until 2013 to read it!

Book Deal: Dorothy Koomson signs 2 book deal with Quercus
Dorothy Koomson is a worldwide bestseller and combined sales of her novels in the UK exceed one million copies. She has written seven books, all of which have been UK and international top ten bestsellers.

After a good few successful years with Little,Brown imprint 'Sphere', Dorothy Koomson and her wonderful books are moving to a new home with Quercus publishers! I don't really mind who publishes Dorothy's books as I know they are going to be a great read, and I'm excited to see where Quercus and Dorothy together are going to go!

Book Deal: Lynda Bellingham signed by Simon&Schuster
Lynda is actually one of the only women on the TV show "Loose Women" that I can actually stand, so I'm quite pleased that it is her who will be writing fiction! It's interesting too that she won't be using a co-author, so Bellingham must be quite good at writing to not need any help. I'll definitely be looking out for her books, will you?"Actress and “Loose Women” co-presenter Lynda Bellingham has signed a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster to write commercial women's fiction.
Publishing director Suzanne Baboneau signed the deal with Gordon Wise at Curtis Brown for UK and Commonwealth rights. The first book, as yet untitled, is due to be published in spring 2013, with the second to follow a year later. Her début is described as a multi-generational family saga with a “tightly woven web of secrets and lies”. Bellingham is not working with a co-author.
Baboneau said: “A five-decade search for a woman's true identity and her battle for acceptance within her own family, this will be a plot and character-driven story conceived with true heart and commitment. The written word comes to Lynda so naturally and instinctively; it is a joy to see, and she will be a joy to work with"
